Sunday Night Randoms

I just realized we only have 19 days left in Georgia and my head exploded. There’s no time to write coherent posts with all the stuff we have to do, so here’s some random updates:

1. Silicone caulk is the devil. We spent a good 5 hours removing it from around the shower so we could clean it and recaulk for the renters.

2. Someone else made an offer on the house we wanted in Maryland and the seller accepted :( Now we’re looking for a new house.

3. I got a job offer in DC!

4. We ate pizza for dinner four of the last six days. (Two nights of those were homemade and not entirely bad health wise. The other two days were Mellow Mushroom – terrible for you, but so so delicious.)

5. The hockey fan in me is loving that the Stanley Cup playoffs are still going on. The Kings fan in me gets a little more nervous the longer it drags out.

6. My brother and one of my sisters will be here in 17 days! They’re going to help us move and play tourist for a bit. I’m so excited to see them :)

7. We’re still trying to find a renter. If you know anyone heading to Fort Gordon and looking for a house, send ‘em my way!

8. As if getting our house ready to rent, moving a few states away, and starting a new job weren’t enough, I decided to resubmit for the next Navy Reserve board (I’m a glutton for punishment). So two weeks after we move up to DC, I get to drive back down to Atlanta for interviews. And then coordinate my package with my recruiter in South Carolina via email, phone, and fax. Fun times!

And now I need to go bake some cookies and go to sleep.

Post Card Swap!

A while ago, Jessica Lynn announced the You’ve Got Snail Mail Post Card Swap 2012 and it sounded like fun (because really, who doesn’t like getting things in the mail? I sign up for free samples of stuff just so I can get fun stuff in the mail sometimes!) so I signed up.

I got matched up with Tessa who blogs at Ciao, Blogga. Tessa is awesome and if you’ve never checked out her blog, you should head over there and say hello!

So here are the postcards I got from Tessa:

That’s Tessa and her husband in their new house in Italy! They sent out that postcard when they moved to Italy

And that’s Tuscany, which looks gorgeous! I want to go to Italy right now.

Thanks for brightening up my day (twice!) Tessa :)

Oh, and to answer your question – yes, I have to been Europe (we went to Dublin last year), but I’ve never been to Italy! And if ever I make it over there, we will definitely have to meet up :)

My Husband Has No Imagination

The other day, Chris and I were talking about the possibility of my enlisting in the Reserve again. One of our friends had been talking about potential billets for linguists, and I got a little excited. And then I started thinking up scenarios. Things like “What if I deployed with a team of SEALs and I did a really good job and they were like, ‘Hey, Sespi, you can be a honorary part of our SEAL team,’ and then I was basically a SEAL?”

And Chris just looked at me and said, “Stop imagining.”

Then today, I was talking about that again (because obviously I can’t stop imagining) and I said, “Oh my gosh, what if one day they were like, ‘Hey Sespi, it doesn’t matter if you’re a girl, come out and kick in doors with us’ and then they let me kick in a door?” Chris, for some reason, decided to play along and said, “Do they actually kick in doors or do they use some kind of ram?” Then he probably instantly regretted it, because I said, “I have no idea! Oh my gosh, what if they use a ram and I tried to do it with my foot but I was too weak so I just bounced off and they were all, ‘Duh, we use a ram. Stupid.’”

It suddenly occurred to me that Chris doesn’t worry about things because he doesn’t have an imagination and I worry about things because I do. I shared this theory with him and he looked unconvinced, so I gave him the following example: “Someone tells you they need a briefing on some topic, so you say ok, prepare, give the briefing, and don’t think about it anymore. But if someone told me to give a briefing, I would say ok, go to prepare and then start thinking… What if I misspeak and no one catches it because I’m the ‘expert’ so they just take my word for it, but I’m not right and then they go to war? We could have spent 50 years avoiding war with the USSR and then I give a briefing and suddenly we’re in the middle of a nuclear war with Russia.”

Chris just stared at me.

I can only assume that it’s because he finally understands how stressful it is to have an imagination and was giving thanks that he doesn’t have one.

*Yes, I do say “was like” and “was all” and occasionally “was all like” when I talk. I’m from Southern California, give me a break.

Fixing My Chewed Up Shoe

I’ve been disappeared forever, but I’m reappearing to make a post about fixing my shoe. You see, my sister’s wedding is coming up, so I bought a new dress and shoes. Last week when we were hurrying around to clean up the house before guests came over, my shoes got set within reach of the dogs, who apparently got bored at night and chewed through one of the ankle straps.

Grrr.

It’s not easy for me to find shoes that fit, so I was none too happy. I figured I may as well try to fix it though, and I think I did a pretty good job. Here’s how it went:

Blurry picture of the broken strap. If you can’t see, just trust me… it’s chewed into two.

Sewn together broken strap:

Functional, but ugly. What to do, what to do? Stick a flower on it!

And now my shoe is fixed and pretty!

Oh, and this is my dress:

It looks darker red than the flower, but in real life they’re the same color.Should look cute with the shoes, eh? (And even if you think it won’t, just go ahead and lie to me, because I’m not going to buy another pair of shoes.)

FALL!

I did this post last year and it made me happy, so I’m doing it again. And yes, Pumpkin Pie Blizzards are on both but there’s a reason for that: they’re amazing.

Leaves Turning

Pumpkin Pie Blizzard

Andrew Luck

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Apple Cider

Army-Navy Game

Seasonal Coffee Creamer

Pumpkin Delights

Pumpkin Patch

As you read, I’m walking the dogs in the crisp morning down at the canal while eating a pumpkin donut and drinking an iced pumpkin latte from Dunkin Donuts.

What’s your favorite part of fall?

New Hair: Phase 1

So… Chris and I debated which color I should dye my hair and he thought the other was too dark. I agreed, but I probably could have gone darker. You can barely tell the difference between these pictures, but I assure you that in real life my hair looks a lot redder than it does in the picture.

Before:

Hair Before

After:

Hair After

After Hair Again

On second thought… since it’s hard to tell in the first picture what my original hair color was, here’s a second before picture for comparison that makes it a lot easier to tell. Yes, it’s an odd picture — my first cider in Ireland! — but the angle gives you a good look at my hair ;)

Before Hair 2

Now on to new hair phase 2… the hair cut.

Facebook Friends

Back in the day, Facebook was for real life friends and Twitter was for people who should be real life friends. But today, I happened to glance down at my friends list…

My top three friends are all Twitter/blog friends :)

The times, they are a-changin’.

P.S. If you ever see me on FB, feel free to add me! I don’t add people I recognize from blogs because it would make me feel like a weirdo stalker. But I promise not to think you’re one if you add me… :)

Boohoo and Hooyah – Week 9

It’s been a while, but it’s time to get back in on a Boohoo and a Hooyah, hosted by the lovely Mrs. Monkey. Link up over at her blog if you want to join in on the fun!

Boohoo: The chief list came out and Chris didn’t make it. It was his first time up and he’s only been in 7 years, so he didn’t think he was going to make it, but I wasn’t allowed to think he wouldn’t make it (since that’s unsupportive or something) and I was a little disappointed. And now deployment number 6 is on the schedule for entirely too soon.

Hooyah: I’ve lost 19 pounds since Chris left! I was hoping to lose 6 more before he’s home, but that’s not going to happen because (bonus hooyah) there’s not enough time before he gets home!!

Memory Lane: College Edition

While I was looking for a picture of me from my 21st birthday, I came across my CD of pictures from college. Sadly, I’ve lost touch with most of my friends from college. I didn’t think I would, but I guess it just happened. Anyway, here’s some of my favorite pictures from college:

I thought about captioning these pictures, but decided against it because then I’d have to explain what things like special dinner, Exodus party, Sunsplash, Movalsaic, and Ovalstone are. But I bet you’re wondering anyway now… ;)

This was fun! Maybe next I’ll do Memory Lane: Grad School edition.

Surprise Video Chats

I’ve had the opportunity to talk to Chris online this week and it’s been nice to see and hear him. Unfortunately, the video camera on his laptop doesn’t always work, so I’ve gotten used to looking at the generic blue silhouette. This morning, however, when I accepted his video call, I saw this:

He claims he has no idea how that happened. What the heck, Google Chat?
